This interesting and attractive coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the founding of the botanical gardens in Ljubljana.

In the inner circle is a representation of the plant HLADNIKIA PASTINAIFOLIA – This is of course the botanical name of this plant which apparently existed before the last ice age and is endemic to the region. The Hladnikia was named after the well known Slovenian botanist Paula Hladnikia.

The coin has an inner ring around which runs the following inscription: “BOTANIČNI VRT · LJUBLJANA · 2010 SLOVENIJA · 200 LET·”

Within the inner circle – bottom left – there is an inscription of two lines of the plant’s name – “HLADNIKIA PASTINACIFOLIA”
