This coin commemorates the 25th anniversary of the death of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.

Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696–1770) was one of the most important Venetian painters of the late Baroque and Rococo. He became famous for the way he handeled emphasized light and perspective in his paintings.

The motif of the coin shows a detail Tiepolo's paintings - Hagar and Ishmael. This is based on the biblical story where God sends an angel to direct Hagar and Ishmael who were lost in the desert.

The angel is seen mainly on the left side of the inner circle.

Around the edge of the inner circle there are two inscriptions "TIEPOLO" which runs from eleven to two o'clock and the name of the issuing country "SAN MARINO" which runs from six to three o'clock.

Somewhat in from "MARINO" are the dates of Tiepolo's death and the date of the year of issue - 1770 and 2020. Down from twelve o'clock is the mint mark "R", and finally at eight o'clock are the initials of the designer "C.M" (Claudia Momoni).
