The European Union declared 2009 to be a year creativity and innovation. The only European land to honour this on a commemorative coin was San Marino.
The coin symbolically represents creativity with a book (learning, knowledge) together with a compass (mathematics), and a test tube and flask (scientific research). The three feathers on the left represent San Marion.
The mint mark “R” is between three and four o’clock and the initials of the artist / designer are shown at six o’clock.
The motive of the coin creativity innovation stands at the top of the inner circle in Italian - “CREATIVITÀ INNOVAZIONE”.
