Tokyo, which last hosted the Summer Olympics in 1964, was due to host them again in 2020.

Owing to the Corona Pandemic, or rather the measures taken by the authorities, the games were postponed until 2021. This is the first time since the start of the New Olympics in 1896 that the four year cycle was broken and that the games are to be held in a year not divisible by four.

The games are scheduled to take place from 24th of July until 9th August 2021.

They are to take place without foreign spectators and with only a few assistants.

The motif shows in the upper right quadrant the Cruz de Portugal (Cross of Portugal) and extending downwards, obliquely, from twelve o'clock, a flagpole.

In the bottom half of the inner circle are the five olympic rings.

Around the edge of the inner circle, running clockwise and starting at twelve o'clock is the inscription "2021 PORTUGAL NOS JOGOS OLÍMPICOS DE TÓQUIO '20" (2021 Portugal at the Tokyo Olympic Games' 20).

Inside the main inscription, running from ten to eight o'clock is a second inscription, in small type - “CASA DA MOEDA - F. PROVIDENCIA” ( The mint).
