This coin commemorates the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci.

Leonardo  was perhaps the most famous Italian of the Renaissance.

He is classified as a universal genius and studied and made contributions in (among others) the following fields  - drawing, painting, sculpting, science, mathematics, engineering, astronomy.

Perhaps the most famous painting of all time  - The Mona Lisa – is one of Leonardo’s creations.

The motive for the coin  is his portrait of Cecilia Gallerani. The portrait was commissioned by  the Duke of Milan, Ludovico Sforza. Cecilia was one of the duke’s mistresses.

Cecilia is seen in the inner circle, looking towards the left. Her smoothly parted hair is covered with a transparent gauze hood. A necklace is seen around her neck.

On the edge of the inner circle, running from eight to ten o’clock is the inscription “LEONARDO” and just in from this, the country designation “RI”. At eight o’clock is the sign of the mint minder “M.A.C.”. The mint mark “R” appears at three o’clock and finally at four o’clock are the dates of Leonardo’s death and the year of issue “ 1519 and 2019".

Altogether a very attractive coin.
