Astérix, was created in 1959 by the author René Goscinny and the draftsman Albert Uderzo.

Asterix became the most successful French comic series.

He epitomizes the Gaul as the traditional Frenchman with his intelligence and wit.

The motif shows a profile of the comic figure wearing he's famed winged helmet.

Around the edge of the inner circle, running from ten o'clock to three o'clock are a number of irregularly shaped stones. Under the stones is the rather bold inscription "ASTERIX" and the country designation "RF".

Around the lower half of the inner circle (nine to three o'clock) is a laurel wreath. This symbolizes glory, victory and peace. Above the laurel wreath is the inscription "LX ANS MMXIX". This - in roman numerals and French stands for  '60 years 2019'.

Just above "ANS" we see the mint mark,a cornucopia, and the mark of the mintmaster (Yves Sampos) , a pentagon.

An attractive and intersting Commemorative Coin.
